With Covid-19 on the mind of all NZ citizens, and the world, PMANZ want to be sure we continue to serve New Zealand in our battle with the diseases spread by pests. On Thursday 26th March 2020, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment gave Pest Management an essential service exemption, as follows:
"Pest Management may be undertaken only where required for human health and safety, and it is essential during the Alert Level 4 period. However, operators must ensure people have somewhere safe to go while the process is underway, in particular where a property is being vacated."
Therefore, we will be able to continue to service the nation’s essential food production facilities, supply chain, supermarkets, medical institutions, food warehouses and businesses. We cannot afford to have our medical facilities, supermarkets, food supply chain or homes uninhabitable due to health and safety reasons from pests and pest related diseases, particularly as we tell citizens to stay home. There is not a segment of the essential food industry that could comply with sanitation and health regulations without an adequate pest control programme.
